Classic Italian cuisine celebrates simple, fresh, understated ingredients, brought together to highlight flavor nuance over bombast. The La Quercia Prosciutto sandwich at Dialtone Coffee + Wine Bar is a perfect representation of this culinary approach, which also fits the vibe set by Evert Meza, general manager of this neighborhood café. “Soft, lightly toasted focaccia is layered with creamy burrata, ripe tomato and savory La Quercia prosciutto. Vibrant pesto, fresh arugula and drizzles of olive oil and balsamic complete the dish,” says Akilah Vidale, chef. “This isn’t just any prosciutto sandwich; it’s a standout in the neighborhood.”

Considerable care and intention went into the crafting of the sandwich. “Originally, we tried using a different cheese, but it overpowered the delicately sliced prosciutto. Switching to burrata added the perfect creaminess without overshadowing the other ingredients,” Vidale explains. “We also experimented with different breads but found that lightly toasted focaccia provided a texture that was soft enough to complement the fillings while adding just the right amount of structure. But it was the final drizzle of balsamic that was the game changer, bringing a subtle sweetness that tied everything together.”
