Introduced last fall as part of Oakberry’s new layered smoothie lineup, Coffee Punch features the brand’s signature açaí base, frozen banana, coffee powder and water.
Ana Areia, head of U.S. marketing for this açaí-centric Brazilian quick-serve chain, describes the overall flavor as bold and functional. “What sets Coffee Punch apart is its simplicity, functionality and the craveable contrast between the tropical freshness of açaí and the deep, energizing flavor of coffee,” Areia says. “Each sip brings a creamy texture and a well-balanced experience between fruitiness and roasted coffee notes.” It also stands out as a non-dairy alternative that doesn’t compromise on taste or nutrition, she adds.
Selecting the right coffee was a crucial part of the development process and revealed an unexpected winner. “Initially, we tested cold brew and espresso, but they overpowered the açaí. The simplicity of using finely ground Arabica premium coffee gave just the right balance of punch and smoothness,” says Areia. “The final version lets each ingredient shine without overcomplicating the blend.”
